You know the words: “With the toe bone connected to the foot bone, and the foot bone connected to the ankle bone…”

Although this little ditty might have been our first introduction to anatomy, and the lyrics are not the most scientific, the message is clear—from our fingers to our toes, our body is connected.

And the pinnacle of this connection? That’s where our “head bone” connects to our “neck bone.”

And this connection is crucial.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic
Dr. Geoff Besso and his team at Stow’s Besso Clinic of Chiropractic are helping patients across our region—and beyond—with their expertise in the field of upper cervical chiropractic. The focus of the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association (or NUCCA) is the upper cervical spine—or your neck and its connection to your head—and how its alignment influences your central nervous system, brain stem function, and your entire body.

It’s like the cornerstone of a house, explains Dr. Besso. All other stones are aligned and leveled to the cornerstone, so if the cornerstone is not set properly—even off by just millimeters—the entire structure can be negatively affected.

Likewise, if your upper spine has pressure on it or is misaligned, it can affect how your entire body functions. Symptoms can include migraines, fibromyalgia, lower backaches, shoulder pain, hip and knee problems, fatigue, and more.

“We’re not treating a specific symptom,” Dr. Besso clarifies. “We’re treating and correcting the underlying cause.”

And he’s getting results.

A Different Kind of Care
“Dr. Besso saved my health—and my marriage,” shares one Akron patient of the clinic (“Jen”). She was suffering from migraines and pain throughout her body, both of which led to a lack of sleep and fatigue.

“After working with Dr. Besso, my pain is gone, and I didn’t have to pay huge medical bills for exploratory surgeries for more pain medication,” Jen shares. “And the procedure is gentle and precise. This is not conventional chiropractic care.”

On your visit, Dr. Besso typically does a thermal scan and then takes a 3D x-ray of the spine, so he’ll be able to bring the spine to balance with great subtly and gentleness on your next visit.

“There’s no twisting or popping or hard massage,” insists Dr. Besso. “Our treatments are very gentle and painless because we’re able to pinpoint small and specific areas of the neck that are misaligned.”

At the end of your treatment, Dr. Besso will take another 3D x-ray to show you exactly what has changed. “If the head and neck are properly aligned, the rest of the spine will realign,” explains Dr. Besso.

“And you don’t want to wait until you’re crawling in here,” Dr. Besso says with a smile. “Catching an upper cervical misalignment early can fend off a number of conditions—including arthritis caused by long-term wear and tear on misaligned bones.”

According to Dr. Besso, less than half of one percent of chiropractic centers in the U.S. specialize in upper cervical spine treatments.

“But because of its effectiveness, it’s a significantly growing specialty,” he adds. Besso Clinic of Chiropractic is one of the only seven centers in Ohio to offer NUCCA chiropractic.

By understanding and gently aligning that important connection between the “head bone” and the “neck bone,” the Besso Clinic of

Chiropractic has helped thousands of patients in our region and beyond, with some patients traveling across the Pacific Ocean for treatment right here in Stow, Ohio. You can read many of those success stories on the Besso Clinic website at www.BessoClinic.com.

As for Jen’s story, here’s her ending: “My quality of life—and my husband’s—has been dramatically improved. We are changed forever.”
