The old school connotation of the saying “you fight like a girl” has new meaning when you say it inside the walls of Empowering Punch. Our personal training, fitness and boxing studio, located in the SouthPark Mall, in Strongsville, has been the force behind dozens of success stories—and they all started with a pair of boxing gloves.

Allyson Jackson, a 29-year-old pediatric nurse at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, has definitely learned to fight like a girl in her quest to “get her life back.”  She has lost 160 lbs. since she started personal training at Empowering Punch.

“In the beginning, I didn’t always work as hard as I could have,” she says.  I wanted the weight to come off fast and easy, but I was also determined not to go on some crazy, unhealthy diet. I quickly learned that this was going to be a battle. If I wanted to win, I had to learn how to fight.”

Paul Scianna, Allyson’s trainer and the owner of Empowering Punch, says he sees the same pattern with all of his clients who have a significant weight loss goal. Low self- esteem, insecurity and low self-confidence almost always accompany weight gain and obesity. “Getting the physical weight off is the easy part,” says Paul. “Convincing the client that he or she has the power within to do it is by far the biggest challenge.”

“Paul always told me that I was my own worst enemy because I didn’t believe in myself enough to fight for what I wanted,” says Allyson. “We always box in our training sessions because of the awesome workout, but what I didn’t realize was how therapeutic it was. You just feel stronger. It makes you want to fight for what you want. This journey has been the biggest challenge of my life and my training sessions at Empowering Punch have undoubtedly gotten me through it every step of the way.”

Boxing is a part of every client’s training program for many reasons. The workout itself is unparalleled with regard to an intense full-body calorie burner. Putting on a pair of boxing gloves and having your way with a heavy bag that doesn’t hit back is second- to-none when it comes to a healthy stress outlet. And the biggest benefit from boxing, says Paul, is how it builds such a profound sense of confidence and empowerment in the clients.

“We train fighters here. Whether you are fighting for a belt title or fighting for your life back, we will get you there,” Paul promises. “Allyson is just one of many success stories coming out of the ring at Empowering Punch. Taking the first step and asking for help is always the hardest part.”

Clients of Empowering Punch get such remarkable results because the personal training programs are so comprehensive and thorough. From the fitness assessment to the nutrition plan, everything is tailor made to suit the individual and his or her lifestyle. There is expert supervision seven days a week to ensure constant support and encouragement.

The most common question received by the staff at Empowering Punch is, “Are there many girls in the boxing classes?” The answer is always yes. The females actually outnumber the males. When you walk by this fitness phenomenon and see the women of Empowering Punch boxing and the results they are achieving, you will definitely want to learn how to fight like a girl.
