Fall is officially Twiisted

Whether it’s happy hour, game day, ladies’ night, a movie date or a dinner party, Twiisted Sushi Grill Bar gets the formula right with an eclectic fusion of dishes and wildly inventive cocktails in a swank setting.

The happy hour scene in Medina is about so much more than lower-priced drinks and appetizers. Twiisted offers the perfect upscale vibe and a generous pentagon-shaped bar area that seats up to 70.

Every day of the week, from 3 to 6 p.m., they offer unheard of specials such as $5 select sushi rolls, $5 select cocktails, $5 appetizers, $2 domestic beer and $3 house wines.

“All the fun fall pumpkin-inspired beers are coming in now,” says Tiffany Bounce, catering general manager. “We recommend ordering beer flights as a fun, social way for people to get a taste of them before finding a favorite. Within each flight are four four-ounce glasses of frosty brew.”

Twiisted attracts a sophisticated crowd, and, not surprisingly, martinis are a mainstay. But just like the menu, there’s a twist or two. Instead of dessert, why not order a caramel cheesecake, lemon meringue or s’mores martini?

With only about 100 shopping days until Christmas, head barkeep Matt Strader and his staff are already scurrying around to create festive holiday cocktails to join their lineup of classic libations.

“My favorite is the Cranberry Mojito,” Matt says. “You cannot beat fresh cranberries muddled with mint. It’s frosty and refreshing at the same time.”

In addition to happy hours, general manager Charlie Franklin reports they are doing a remarkable lunch business. The cat is out of the bag on their special daily deal. For $9.69 guests enjoy a burger and a sushi roll, which is pretty amazing.

Sushi Meets South of the Border

“In every dish, we like to have a little fun,” Charlie says. “You cannot take yourself too seriously.”

An excellent example is the Sushirito, a delectable combo of bursting-with-flavor sushi rolled in rice and wrapped in nori as an easy-to-eat burrito.

The most popular of these dishes is probably the Crabbyrito, which features fried soft shell crab, romaine lettuce, roasted red pepper and red onion with zesty cilantro-lime mayo. And the Pokerito is a close second. People love the tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, cucumber and carrots with ponzu sauce, scallion and sesame seeds.

Staff Picks

Tiffany and Charlie have worked at Twiisted for several years and their favorite dishes are reflective of the eatery’s adventurous cuisine.

Charlie’s Pick is the Cali Dreamin’ Roll.

“It’s everything sushi should be. Packed with bold and delicate flavors, sweet crab, crunchy avocado and creamy cucumber are topped with seared salmon, garlic mayo, eel sauce, almonds and scallions.”

Tiffany’s Pick is the Here Comes Truffle Burger.

“There’s something about the sweet-salty-savory in this burger, which is topped with melted blue cheese, maple bacon jam and truffle-infused mayo on a house-made toasted brioche bun.”

It’s Party Time

“Whether here at the restaurant, in people’s homes or local venues, we have catered every type of gathering, from baby showers to bar mitzvahs, rehearsal dinners, birthday parties and more,” says Tiffany.

Those interested in throwing parties at the restaurant enjoy a semi-secluded area that seats about 45, with tables intimately clustered around a roaring fireplace. And with heaters dotted throughout the spacious gated patio, there’s still plenty of al fresco dining to enjoy this fall.

She says for smaller parties at homes or offices, they can create and deliver custom sushi trays colorfully presented with sides and dips. Or if people want staff to stay and serve, they can handle that as well.

“People love the experience of creating their own signature burger from a custom burger bar or nacho bar, and we have put together all the fun ingredients to help them do exactly that,” she says. “And also our ribs, with housemade Korean barbecue sauce, are perennial crowd favorites.”
