Over the past year, Mimi has featured several Empowering Punch success stories that highlighted individuals who have achieved remarkable weight loss goals—changing their lives forever. What is lost but not forgotten behind those tremendous stories are the countless others who have also been empowered in their fight to fitness. In fact, since Empowering Punch opened its doors one year ago, its members have totaled over 1,000 pounds of weight loss and the team couldn’t have asked for a more commemorative milestone.

Last November, owner Paul Scianna opened the doors of his unorthodox fitness center and introduced a 20-foot by 20-foot boxing ring to the passers-by in the SouthPark Mall, in Strongsville. Every day, hundreds of people walk by this training hub asking themselves one of two questions:

“Who works out in the mall?” and “What do I have to do to be a part of that?”

As the center’s success has shown, those who have made the choice to step through the doors have never looked back.

“The greatest part of this fitness studio is the fact that there really is something for everyone,” Paul says. “Regardless of age, gender or fitness level, local residents are lining up to strap on a pair of boxing gloves and step into the ring.”

Although boxing is the most popular class, there are plenty of other exciting workouts to choose from, including TRX, kickboxing, Zumba and more. They even teach good old-fashioned step aerobics on a bosu ball.

In addition to the wide-ranging class schedule—and the reason for the majority of the weight loss by members—the personal training program is a cut above. “The trainers at Empowering Punch are in it to win it,” says co-owner Danyl Scianna. “They are 100% vested in getting their clients to their goals and go above and beyond to keep them focused and motivated.”

The significant weight loss numbers have much to do with the meal plans provided with a personal training package. All meal plans are approved by a registered dietitian and are specifically customized for each client.

The latest addition to the Empowering Punch strategy is a new class called EP Plus. This is a support group that meets weekly to help members and clients work through challenges they may have with everything from eating correctly to staying motivated. The class is free and is open to anyone to attend.

The past year at Empowering Punch has been all about achieving goals. The team set out one year ago to break the mold on the typical, everyday workout, which they have flawlessly executed and have a 1,000-pound victory to show for it. They’ve added youth boxing to their repertoire, boxing birthday parties, and even rentable private class times for corporate team-building or fun, family bonding.

The next time you are walking by Empowering Punch, stop in and wish the team a happy anniversary and ask how to get your name on that 1,000 pounds lost list.
